About Florence-On-Line
Florence-On-Line has been an independent guide to Florence, Italy since 2005 - longer than most travel websites have existed, and long before travel blogging became an industry. What started as a personal project born out of a decade of living in Florence has grown into one of the web's most comprehensive independent resources for art lovers, first-time visitors, and repeat travelers who want to go beyond the obvious.
This is not a site generated by algorithm or written by someone who spent a long weekend in Tuscany. Every page reflects firsthand experience, original photography, and a genuine obsession with a city that has occupied the center of my creative and intellectual life since childhood.
Florence-On-Line covers the museums, churches, palazzi, piazzas, bridges, markets, restaurants, and neighborhoods of the city in depth - with a particular focus on art, architecture, and the experience of actually being there, on foot, in all seasons and all kinds of weather.
About Anthony Finta
I first came to Florence the way most art-obsessed Americans do - overwhelmed, underprepared, and immediately certain I needed to come back. And I did, a few times. What I didn't expect was to eventually stay for the better part of a decade.
Living in Florence as a resident rather than a tourist changes everything. You begin to learn which churches are empty on Tuesday mornings, which neighborhoods flood in November, which trattorie close in August and reopen in September with the same hand-written menu. You develop opinions - strong ones - about gelato.
I'm a visual artist by training and practice, working in painting and sculpture. That background shapes how I see and write about Florence, a city that is essentially a living argument for the importance of visual culture. My photography archive of Florence spans more than 30,000 images accumulated over two decades - street scenes, interiors, details, events - and much of that work appears throughout this site.
My paintings are currently represented by Jessica Hagen Gallery in Newport, Rhode Island.
I launched Florence-On-Line in 2005 while still living in Florence, and it has become a way to stay connected to my second home after returning to the United States, and to put the knowledge I'd accumulated to practical use for travelers who wanted something more substantive than a social media post.

A Note on Stendhal Syndrome
If you are visiting Florence for the first time as someone who has spent years in love with Renaissance art, I want to offer a sincere warning: be prepared. The concentration of masterworks in a relatively small area - and the experience of standing in front of works you have studied your whole life - can be genuinely disorienting. Stendhal Syndrome is real. Pace yourself. The city will still be there after lunch (and is often enjoyed most in the later afternoon hours when crowds are mostly gone).Get in Touch
