Brancaia Tre 2003
Was looking forward to this bottle but was not overly impressed (perhaps because the bottle of Villa Antinori last night was so good) with this "baby" Super Tuscan. "Tre" is a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet, with the grapes coming from 2 estates in Chianti and one in the Maremma (Morellino di Scansano). It was sharp on the tongue and spicy, with black pepper domintating - really never found the fruit I was expecting. The tannins seemed solid and while this isn't a high end wine it may need some more time in the bottle to fully enjoy. The color was nice but not brilliant and there was just the slightest amount of bricking on the edges. Solid, but not spectacular - I would not want to pay $50 a bottle for this, which I have seen on some restaurant websites.
